Engineer: Gary Kellgren
Mixing: Gary Kellgren
Noel Redding: bass, Mitch Mitchell: drums
Source: Master > reel > ? > CDR
Multitrack master mixing session reference tape. The master has two false starts preceding the complete take, "False start 1" is only audible on mix 5. Both false starts are harpsichord only, so the basic track was cut with just drums, bass & harpsichord, with Jimi adding guitar & vocal overdubs.
The original tape is a 15 ips 2-track reel in a Scotch box, a reference tape of a mixing session.
First offered for sale on eBay in August 2003, later sold for 20.000 UK pounds as Lot 56 during the 16th of June 2004 Cooper Owen auction. The auction catalog described the origins of the tape as follows: “The vendor was involved in the music business in the late sixties and early seventies, managing the group Strawberry Alarm Clock (who incidentally played with Hendrix at Earl Warren
Showgrounds, Santa Barbara, California on 1 July 1968) and late one night met Jimi at Paramount Recording Studios where he had been recording all day, Jimi gave the vendor the tape and asked him to let him know what he thought of it, the next time the vendor met Jimi he told him he thought it was great, Jimi was pleased and told him to keep the tape.” Be that as it may, according to John McDermott this mixing session tape originates from a July 1967 session at Mayfair Recording Studio, Inc. and Experience Hendrix is in possession of the original multitrack tape.

There are a couple of different versions of this set. On this version the tracks were pitch corrected by comparing to official mixes (when possible) and the cut in the long version of Villanova Junction patched with the shorter edit.

According to the "Voodoo Soup" liner notes by Michael Fairchild "the tape itself is a nine minute reel" recorded entirely by Jimi with him filling four of the tracks with drum overdubs.
Thus this version probably is the unedited complete take.
