9 Wild thing (drop-outs)

Lineage: 42min, G, Audience, Master > 1st > DAT > Cdr
Pitch adjusted by +3%, balance & phase corrected and some clicks removed. This recording doesn't seem to circulate without the leakage so it must either be on the master or the 1st gen copy? The leakage has so far been on all copies of the tape that I have heard including the Polymore bootleg lp "Fuckin' His Guitar For Denmark".

Lineage: 51min, G, Audience, Master (cassette) > reel > reel > DAT > Panasonic SV-300 DAT machine > ProTools d24 system (Mac G3 environment) > CDR > Soundstudio > Shorten > shtn > wav (index repairs)
Torrented by Jonsatticuk as "The Swedish Flood Vol. 5".
Index clicks (badly removed gaps) repaired in August 2008.
The recording has severe mic noises at places. Unknown if the distortion (in The Wind cries Mary for example) is on the master or caused by too high rec levels at some point in the lineage?
Jonsatticuk torrent notes: "Please note that the original cassette recording for this show was transferred by the taper to reel to reel. There was then a subsequent transfer so the all copies originating from it should be considered second generation. There are no master copies. Note also that the show is marred by lots of microphone clicks early on. The afflicted tracks are EXP/UFTS/SCM. Most of the noise was generated by recorder equipment / mic malfunctions and also the taper adjusting the gear. Some of the sharp rapid pops resemble digital faults but they are not. They probably could be safely removed without affecting surrounding material."

Lineage: 11min, E, Soundboard, master (reel) > reel > CD
Recorded by Jimi on reel to reel.
Released officially on the Dagger Records CD "Live In Paris & Ottawa 1968". The recording was listed on eBay in March 2008 as part of a lot of three reel to reel tapes but the auction closed early and the Ottawa segment was privately sold to Experience Hendrix.

Four tracks from Ottawa were included in the auction but for some reason "Little Wing" was left off the CD release. Could be that the recording was incomplete or damaged, or could be that it was saved for a future mainstream release, being a high quality recording of a rare live track. A short sample of "Little Wing" does circulate, see next entry.

1 Little wing

Lineage: 1min, VG+, Soundboard, master (reel) > reel > ?
Recorded by Jimi on reel to reel.
A low quality audio sample from an auction for a lot of tapes sold on eBay in March 2008. These were dubs made in 1975 of Jimi`s original master reel to reel tapes which had been stored at Electric Lady.

The auction listing described the dubs as follows:
"The three reel to reel tapes were recorded in 1975 on Ampex 456 professional stock. They are recorded in stereo at 71/2 ips. [...] Don’t be misled by the quality of this sample. It was digitized from a 40 year old reel to reel deck on its last legs. The distortion heard on the sample is not present on the tape. The tapes themselves are only two generations from the multi-track masters, and were recorded on high quality Ampex machines with studio specifications."

Gaps & repeat sections (present on all circulating copies of this tape) in track 1 at 0.46, track 2 at 3.36 & track 4 at 0.20 have been removed from this version.

This tape was originally circulated as being from the 2nd show (most likely because of the end announcements). When Experience Hendrix released film (1st show only) and audio (both shows) of the performances in 2013 it turned out that "Foxy lady" was actually from the 1st (daylight) show. "Purple haze" from the 1st show also features in the film but the audio actually comes from the 2nd show, same with "Fire".

There are at least two different transfers of this tape in circulation. One of them is a speaker dub, during Are You Experienced you can hear a telephone ringing. The other transfer (this version) is superior in quality and doesn't have the phone on it, but the possibility remains that this isn't a line recording either...

Lineage: Master (5" reel) > cassette (cheap normal bias tape) > cassette (Maxell UDXL 2) > DAT > CDR > wav
Recorded on 5" reel to reel, see UV17.
The taper made a cassette copy of the master on a normal bias tape, from this tape 3 copies on Maxell UDXL 2 cassettes were made and one of these was transferred to DAT. The tape circulates as a 1st gen but is actually 2nd gen. The DAT was transferred to CDR in 2005 and pitch corrected by -5%. Repairs to the audio (removal of noises not on the original master) were done in May 2008: an analog click in Foxy Lady at 2.24 partly removed. A DAT noise (on all copies I've heard so probably on the original DAT) at 2.43 in Like A Rolling Stone could not be entirely removed but it's a lot less audible now. Analog clicks at 2.17 in Star Spangled Banner & 0.02 in Purple Haze completely removed.

unidentified 14 sec snippet of music possibly by Vanilla Fudge (who were one of the support acts)

Lineage: 22min, R, Audience, Master > cassette > cassette > cdr > cdr
This circulates as a "DAT clone of master" but is actually 2nd gen. I have a copy of this with a known lineage of Master > cassette > cassette > cdr and the quality is identical to the "DAT clone". Also, most copies have a DAT noise at 2.24 into Fire, this version is clean. The "Vanilla Fudge" -snippet is also slightly longer than on other copies in circulation.
